Personally I hope they don't put the other 4 cities in or at least delay them a long while.
Now I am not trying to piss you Warhammer fans off. Let me first say I am not a Warhammer fan per se. I have never played the tabletop version and don't really care about the lore. (Been playing mmos and rpgs and reading fantasy novels for 30 years, and after all this time its all pretty much the same anyways). What I am is an mmorpg player and I enjoy the RvR. I want a good, fun game to play. That is all. And WAR is filling this role for me currently.
My reason for not wanting the other 4 cities is because the 1 city each side has already seems large and empty. I hardly see any players there. Like someone previously said, people just go there to use the bank and guild vaults. For the most part its empty even on full servers during prime time.
So why would Mythic put in 4 more cities? So we can then have 6 totally empty desolate cities instead of the 2 almost empty cities we have now?
And there seems to be areas of the city (Destruction side anyways) That have large areas with no content. (I'm talking about the big areas in the back with npcs fighting each other. I have no idea what these big areas are for). Also, the main city we do have seems to still be not working correctly? Portals that go nowhere. Also the city does not seem to be raising levels yet to supposedly open some of this stuff up.
I want them to add more content and purpose to the 2 cities that are already there. Mythic needs to add something to make players want to go and hang out there. Cities in other games are trading and crafting meccas. But in WAR they dont seem to have that function.
So, when and if Mythic adds in a purpose and reason for spending more than a few minutes into the 2 main existing cities to the point they are really being used and seem alilve, then and only then should they add the other 4 cities.
To simply add the other 4 cities just to have them will just spread out the already thin city population.
I would rather they take the time to add more content, put in the missing classes, fix the bugs (guild functions are somewhat borked atm still), and concentrate on the areas where people spend 99% of thier time (ie rvr scenarios, PQs, doing quests etc, etc).
Nobody can decide for you. Only you know what you like and don't like.
But honestly you only got to rank 3? as in level 3? and only played 1 character. That must of took all of about 15 minutes?
Personally I did not like tanks. I find them boring. But once I started playing a DoK and shaman I loved them and they are my main characters now.
You don't really start getting skills and a feel for how the character plays until about level 8-10.
IMO WAR is the best mmo to come out in a long time. And if you like pvp or rvr it is a must play. Heck, even if you didn't like pvp in other games, WAR might convert you.
I dunno seems like a different game you guys are playing lol.
As far as the un-install. I DLed the trial by first DLing the Sony launch pad. From there I DLed the trial.
The launch pad showed up in my windows menu and I could un-install it. However the Vanguard did not show up anywhere. I am guessing because I DLed it thru the launchpad. There were no problems with either the DL or running the game client.
Wasnt really planning on writing a review since I only spent a few hours in the game, but as some of you have made comments I will try to reply.
The game for the most part ran like crap on my computer is one reason I did not like it. It was choppy and the best frame rate I could get was around 20 fps. I had to turn down the graphics to balanced and medium for the most part to achieve this.
My computer is custom built with very good quality parts and I could run AOC (when it worked) and most other games at high graphics settings and get good fps.
Q6600, 8800gt, 4 gig heatsink ram, gigabyte mobo, etc etc.
The game looked flat or something. It reminded me of DAOC graphics heh. It was like there wes no depth perception or something. And the colors were off...like the trees were too green or something.
Now maybe it does look "amazing" as some of you have suggested on the highest settings but you would need a $3000 dollar computer to run it. Sorry, but its not worth building a new computer of those specs to get this game to look nice. I did turn the graphics all the way up to high and took a peek but didnt see that much of a difference. It still looked flat with no depth perception to my eyes.
The avatars, especially the males looked just out of proportion and had this moon looking Shrek type face lol.
Animations were a real turn off. Running with arms straight down at the sides. Jumping is just a little up movement. Spell attacks you just raise your arms a little bit.
Finally, I could not find any quests or any helpful information on figuring out the game on the trial isle. There is only one tutorial that I found about diplomacy. And the diplomacy system seemed really stupid to me. Like a mini card game. That turned me off as well. The trial isle seems to just leave you to figure stuff out all by yourself. Hell I couldnt even figure out how to talk in the global chat to ask questions. The game is just not very intuitive at all.
I could see playing it if it were a free game or a reduced fee or if you already have the Sony pass but I don't think its worth $14.99 per month in any shape or form when you consider there are much better quality games out for that price.
Again I only spent a few hours in the game so probably didnt get to see many of the gameplay features. But based on what I saw on the trial isle its just not worth it. The trial isle was boring.
Anyways, the game was just not to my tastes. To each their own.
So I have a few days before my new game starts and I decided to check out the free isle trial for Vanguard.
Sorry, but I did not like the graphics at all... It looks really old or flat or something and the avatars look like really bad animated cartoons.
Anyways the game is not for me.
So I went to un-install it and can find nowhere to do it.
I cannot even un-install it thru the control panel.
I even went to the Vanguard forums and help support and searched and cannot find instructions on how to get this game off my computer.
Why wouldn't SOE give you an option to un-install it?
So the only way to remove it I guess is to search for the files and manually delete them and then run a registry cleaner?
Actually it was Oceanic so US version...
Even now after they brought the servers back I keep getting the same authentication/patcher errors and login timeouts.
Actually I am making it past the authentication a bit more but getting timeouts on the server screen now...If its not one thing its another.
So, I basically give up on the OB and hope they get the problems fixed before the game goes live.
During this OB I have spent more time watching/trying to log in than actually playing and thats no lie.
I must say that the little time I was able to get in the game it looks and plays fantastic.
