I didn't cry when Bambi's mother died... but I cried when HAL was turned off.

    • So, I wanted to try Tantra. The reviews seem good, and what the hey, it's free to try.

First attempt: I registered for an account and got to the Download page. Easy so far. Then I was presented with several links: a manual patch, a Huge Forge map, a Huge Forge Map Full Patch, and a Torrent file.

      Say whaaaa?

The first link, which I would assume was what you should use to start the game for the first time (it's that Human Factors degree getting in the way again), wasn't. Launching the only executable brought up a cryptic error message.

Second attempt: The largest of the files, which is supposedly a map. I imagine that "map" is the secret word for "the file you need to start playing."  Took an hour plus, but at least that's better than Thang. This created even more files, including a new executable, "Tantrum.exe." Launching this brought up an alert saying that the game must nbe launched with "Tantra.exe," which was nowhere to be found.

Third attempt: Another game. If the host doesn't want you playing it, there's not much you can do.

    • Good genre but my little god, that description!
    • Even though I'm a writer, I don't usually criticize other peoples' English. I mean, sometimes I make a typo, sometimes I end a sentence a preposition with.  Nah. If they overload the eleetspeek and the keystroke saving nonsense, I just ignore them. Honestly I'm not a language Nazi; I think of myself more as a language radical democratist.

But the description posted here... Lord. First of all, it may make sense to the writer, but I wouldn't even guarantee that. Second, I lost track of the "Engrish" going on. Haft human and haft vampire, huh? That'd be like a double-hafted axe or something? Sheesh.

I agree, we need horror MMORPGs. But horror derives from literature, and that means writing, and if you can't handle writing in English, you need to hire someone who can.

    • for the ever lasting love of god!
    • Yes, it's real old-school, a 2d top-down 32x32 pixel profile RPG. And yet there's a reason for its existence, even today.

Not everyone has (or wants) Mac OSX.

Clan Lord is the only MMORPG client that plays under classic Mac OS. I agree, the play isn't superb, the sound crashes your system (avoid Bards at all costs), and the game is mostly about smashing into monsters and being an axe-wielding cat person. It's been called a great chat client with a moderately interesting game grafted on."

I played for a while before I got a Windows PC and was able to access a wider world of games, but if a classic Mac is all you have (and you see no need to upgrade, as many do), then Clan Lord would work for you.

Plus the players are way supportive. I had better RP there than on WoW, EQOA, or Matrix Online. <shrug>
