I'm betting Jack & Co have learned from their past mistakes (I5 & ED debacle) and will deliver an excellent title. While I wish they hadn't decided on Cell Shading it does fit the comic book theme.
I'll be keeping my eye on this one..
Unfortunately, I think history shows that MMO developers or more prone to make the same mistakes in their future offerings.
I think I am doing you a favor by saying no.
I just got done playing my AoC preorder, and the new combat system just did not live up to what I was expecting (and yes, I have played games long enough now to know what is not going to work for me, personally, even after just 5 hours playing). Cancelled me preorder, canceled my subscription and un-installed the game in less than 5 minutes. But the real reason was the immediate constraint I felt when being bridled with a new "class", I will say it again... I'm done with class-based systems, I need my freedom, RL is constraining enough that I can't accept it during my entertainment hours any longer. Developers are modeling their MMO's after an amusement park rides, on rails, instead of a free-flowing game WORLD.
UO probably spoiled me because it is the only game that allowed me to build the specific toon I wanted to play, and I never felt like I was missing out on a play-style function that I needed/wanted. The top-down camera angles of UO just are too dated to play any more...
Problem is, most, if not all, of the MMO's touting skill based systems, in the future, are quite possibly vapor-ware, and since the percentage of people playing MMO's vs. those that have played class based systems, keeps getting more disparaging, skill-based MMO's may have gone the way of the dodo bird. Who can demand a system that they have never been exposed to? What developer can create a skill based system when they probably can't find more than a hand full of such programmers?
I suppose I should be happy for all those who never got to feel the freedom of a true online game world... for them, ignorance (based on lack of exposure) is bliss.
