Yes they have, since their existence!
Over time as technology gets better and better and more people are able to upgrade their systems yes they could! Although that also makes it harder and harder for those that can't upgrade their PCs to handle that many characters on screen thus excluding those paying customers.
Funcom has already cut a huge portion of the MMO player base by the required specs needed! Upgrading would only make it worse and cut even more players from fully experiencing what the game offers. This is why the 100x100 was cut down to 48x48, cause even the top end PCs atm don't handle 100x100 very well.

I don't understand how he can formulate any real conclusions about the game without actually playing it.
Sometimes later on it could get better or they're having a bad day or many times that what you get and nothing ever changes; sometimes only a little changes but the core stays the same.
You can't say you've tried every asian MMO out there and gave them a few weeks or a month chance! Many log in and can tell its a grind fest or not for them within a few min....doesn't change with AAA MMOs either.
What you just said...so wait! It was released early too.
There are PvE "non-ganking" servers, and raid dungeons at lvl 80! However I'm seeing a ton of mixed signals in all posts on AoC! Probably best to wait until the free month is over and then see how the subscriptions are holding.
