The Witch Elf
I played a lot preview weekend, mostly with a friend who played a Disciple of Khaine. We managed to get to lvl 14 by last night. We did everything, PvE quests, PQ's, Open RvR Scenarios. And we were successful at most it if when we figured it out.
The Witch Elf is all about living on the edge. Melee DPS with light armor. She's the brat who can dish it out but can't take it when you turn on her.
For PvE she's much weaker solo than the Disciple. She can take the regular fray, but the champion class mobs usually do her in without assistance. My friend the Disciple was able to take most out. Together we could take out Hero level mobs as a duo, so long as we didn't get many adds.
playing scenarios was PAINFUL as the Witch Elf...for a while. At lower levels I was fodder for the ranged DPS.....those pesky high elves and their slowing arrows. So what turned scenarios around for the witchelf? INVIS. now I had the ability to bridge the distance, run past the melee classes and get behind the soft targets. Usually, once I appeared, the only one who notices would be the victim of my onslaught. Who would quickly fall and I'd move on to my next victim. Often I could continue this for 3-4 players prior to being killed. If the rest of my group were doing well, we'd win the skirmish and I wouldn't die.
After getting Invis, I went from the bottom of the contribution list to the top, often placing 1st or 2nd in Deathblows, and Total damage output.
PQ's were fun....there is a strange balance.....if there are a lot of ppl doing the PQ then it goes fast, but your chance for loot goes down....if there are only a few ppl doing it, you're chance for loot goes up, but it takes a loooong time.
The Witch Elf Mechanics work like this: Direct Damage, DoT, build up to 5 points to spend on variable damage skills, (DoT, DD, 4 hit combo). You've got Kiss, skills, which are like self melee buffs, each having a different effect. As Combat Progresses you unlock a couple nice abilitys, one is BIG damage hit, the other does damage and gives you Action points.
Witch Elf is all business end of the blade and not much else. I won't lie.... for RvR, being Melee with light Armor, she's an attractive target to the enemy. Chasing down other melee characters so you can hit them gets tiring, it'd be easier to be ranged DPS and sit back and shoot/cast....more than once that option has been very tempting. There is a combination of skill and old fashioned work to play the witchelf effectively in RvR. I'm hoping long term that work is worth it and the risk you take playing the class is rewarded with high endgame damage and some survivial / escape skills.
Overall I had fun, and I'll likely role a Witch Elf at launch.

Same crap? Like game playing? Hmm, don’t know why I would want to do that.
Interesting, its the all too common siting of the ugly forum troll. he hates mmo's and says they all suck and isn't playing any, but he hangs out in mmo forums burping his putrid stench. clearly evolution has done him no favors.
if only someone would do him a favor and put him out of his misery
Chicken Chaser!
anyone play Fable?
Gah it was annoying in that game with everyone calling you chicken chaser as the beginning of the game until you managed to land yourself a new title.
I'm with the OP, I'm REALLY looking forward to WAR....
The thing is, I may feel like i think your wife does....what's the point of playing something else?
Sure it looks like there are good things in AoC, but its not the same RvR content Im looking forward to in WAR.
Clearly the upside is that its out now not later.
Right now I'm leaning towards not trying out AoC, I'm hoping the usually summer outdoor fun makes me not miss playing an mmo. Think it'll work?
How many hours per day do you play MMORPGs?
