From my blog Jamkull's Blog [Jamkull]

SAN FRANCISCO, CA and EDMONTON, CANADA — October 30, 2007 — LucasArts and BioWare Corp. today announced that they have entered into an agreement to create an interactive entertainment product. The product, details of which will be unveiled at a later date, will be developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, and will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.

“LucasArts has a deep commitment to developing compelling stories and characters for the unique medium of interactive entertainment, and we have been searching for a developer that shares this value. We found this in BioWare,” said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. “Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements, and we believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment.”

“BioWare’s mission is to deliver the best story and character-driven games in the world, delivering powerful emotional experiences to our fans.” said Ray Muzyka, chief executive officer, BioWare Corp. Added Greg Zeschuk, president of BioWare Corp., “The collaboration with LucasArts allows us to combine our passion for creating high quality and innovative experiences with those of a company dedicated to bringing only the finest games to market.

What does this mean?  Is Bioware now going to make a possible Star Wars MMO?  Or will it just be single/multi-player for console/PC?  Only time will tell...

    • I had a Zboard before, it was the one for EQ2. I really liked it a lot as far as the standard design goes. the specialized keyboards didn't help me any because of their setup. I'm an old school computer gamer and WASD is the main way to go. I've never liked using the right side of the keyboard for movement, way to awkward for me. But as for the standard design of it, i found it to be great for gamers. the response was fine and the fact of it's innate design if you accidentally spill anything on it, the liquid won't get on the main electrical part of the keyboard and it's very easy to clean because the standard keys pop right out very easily and replace fairly easily. it does take a bit of patience to get them set on spots right.

So i'd agree on the specialized keyboards, they suck really... but the standard one is fine and did last me a good 2 years before it pooped the bed. and I didn't have any issues with any keys not responding as the reviewer stated.

      Beware.

Edit: They also made Paradise City.

Doesnt Frogster have something to do with Chronicles of Spellborn?

I'm gonna have to check on that. I believe I did see them linked somehow.

Edit: That was easy, Frogster is the Korean publisher for Spellborn. news.mmosite.com/content/2007-10-28/20071028225057740,1.shtml

well they can publish all they want, it doesn't make a bit of difference as far as the programming goes. you have to figure out who the group was that programmed said games to figure out the ones to lookout for.

the ones programming TCoS is Spellborn NV.  Publishers just ship the said game to various locations and or make it available to a given audience nothing more.  But they can influence schedules and make the programming company end up shipping a not so polished product to market.  But at least as far as MMOs go, it's always an ongoing development.  A good rule of thumb with any MMO is to wait 4 to 6 months after release before trying it.  But sometimes bugs are fun :)

    • General: D&D 4th Edition - Learning from MMOs
    • This is real interesting...

It's a good idea, but I truly hope they really develop the table top tools really extensively because that is one thing about PnP over MMOs is the ability to do whatever your imagination desires.  But with any computer based form of table top you will always have restrictions.  "IF" they can surpass most of the restrictions then this would be worthwhile.

But I find it so funny that 4th edition has made such a turn.  And honestly i don't think it would have if things wouldn't have exploded as they have in the MMO genre.  And of course it is fitting they would want a piece of the pie.  I'm sure DDO that turbine made probably isn't producing the numbers they may have liked or wanted, so now they redevelop things so that it fits easier.

This could be their downfall now, they are no longer "unique" and they have joined the Joneses so to speak.

So it all depends on who can display and represent the information the best for what people are looking for.

But this could be really big for the majority of the hardcore RP community... but not so great for much else.  So it would be wise if the toolset for the premium service of theirs includes much of what roleplayers would love and need.

of course this is going to make for some interesting new MMO games from Wizards of the Coast and whatever designer they go with, i'm hoping we see a new Bioware MMO based on this ruleset in the not so distant future.

    • i'll definitely have to give this game a shot once it comes out, love the CoH/CoV game... the customizable features of your character in those games are light years ahead of everyone else.  Being able to have multiple costumes to switch to at anytime you feel like it is outstanding.  plus ongoing content.

Hope they keep with having live events like in CoH/CoV, even  go a step further with it.

Not sure how i'm going to like the cell shading, but as from a comic book stand point it does fit the picture.  although I prefer the graphic system in CoH/CoV.

but with the promise of more customization features and more indepth story elements for your character this may be better especially with a PnP background to help get things rolling on a good start.

one i will keep a close eye on for sure.
