Well I was checking again infos about the races. Well as I am sure you noticed the Alfar play alone since pretty much they are free targets for everyone.
I really wonder if they will be ganked all the time and/or will they be able to survive in this harsh harsh world.
Really though they have the best backstory so far.
If you look at the world map, its like a 6 point star with each race's starter area having 2 closeby enemys, one on each side.
Alfar have enemy Dwarf on their right, and enemy Human on their left...but the Dwarf have enemy Mahirim on their other side, while Human have enemy Ork to their other side.
So every faction will be busy with 2 nearby enemies and the alfar will be no worse off then any other in this regard.
I recently made the mistake getting myself hyped about AoC, then wishing I could retrieve the time wasted afterwards.
So I'm in 2 minds about Darkfall .
One part of me is seeing potentially great things that other games did wrong, while the other part is worrying that something else will turn up wrong, and I will find myself waiting for yet another game to come and do it right.......and the cycle goes on forever.
At least I have quite a selection of potential games lined up over the next year or so, hopefully I will find what I'm looking for.
Darkfall,Earthrise,Aion,Lineage3 all promising PvP , hopefully at least one of them delivers
As bizarre as this sounds, I think a lack of animations can actually prove beneficial in FPS PvP.
Consider, the human eye locks on to movement. Thus when your eyes befall a battle scene, with several players in close combat, if their legs are stationary and only the arms are swinging , you will find that determining who is hitting whom comes faster to you, compared to the same scene if all chars are shuffling their legs and swinging their arms.
This I noticed in the trailer fighting, during the mass engagements, I could more rapidly pick out the manouvering chars as their legs were moving compared to the stationary chars who just had swinging arms.
I found that I more rapidly noticed details such as "that guy is trying to get behind this guy" , "this guy is edging back" and such.
These details would have been harder to pick up, in a fully animated scene with all the mayhem and blood ensuing.
I noted similar with the scenes of 30+ players running , the weak movement animation yielded me a more purposeful determination of exactly what was going on, and who was going where.
So for a FPS , aspiring to have a huge number of players in single battle, while still allowing the participants to retain a good spatial awareness of themselves and their foes, it may be that using less animations is actually more beneficial to the players then using more.
Food for thought~
In your opinion, what kind of gamer are you?
