What a load of nonsense.  Those figures were of June 30, NOT August.  Conservative opinion posts current playerbase at under 200k and falling.  Next time read the fine print that came along with the numbers.

No matter what Funcom adds to the game, it won't be enough.  War and Wow will just remove a good portion of their remaining playerbase this fall.  Big server merges will be announced at the first of the year.

I am just very saddened by their extremely poor implementation of such a legendary genre.   Looking pretty is just not enough, it has to be combined with good gameplay.

Yep, those numbers are second quarter (1 April - 30 June 2008).  While in Leipzig this month, FunCom mentioned these same numbers and labeled them as "current" as of mid-August.  Incredibly, many fan sites, media and MMO hobbyists believed it.  But remember, we're talking about FunCom -- the masters of hype, the seigneurs of spin, the PR ... well, I think you get my drift, RE: FunCom credibility.

So yes, it's quite naive for anyone to actually believe FunCom's definition of "current" numbers.  As of today, more accurate estimates place the subscription base (total active subscriptions, much lower for active players) at 200-250K and dropping.

FunCom can save this game by actually delivering on their promises.  But obviously, time is running out.  The effective range of any more of FunCom excuses for not getting this game to release quality *NOW* -- well into the Fourth Month after release, is zero meters.

There is no doubt that Age of Conan has the potential for being a truly great MMO.  But as of today, AoC is hemmoraging active players at a disturbing rate (a true bane for guilds/guild leaders who are still trying to play the game) and many have left AoC and won't be back.  Many others, like myself, continue to play the game casually, hoping FunCom actually gets this game to release quality.

On a side note you guys really gotta stop being so hungry for wow's downfall.  I read it on here every day: "OMG this game is going to be sooo much better than wow.  OMG your dumb because your playing a game that has a simple easy to understand interface behold my nerd rage!"  The only thing this accomplishes is pepole buying poor wow knock off because YOU, meaning the people of these boards, tend to take their hype at face value.  Do yourselves a favor you really want to know what a game is like test it.  SIgn up for betas.  Then try to be objective.  Meaning several times during the course of the game honestly ask yourself, "Am I having fun" if the answer is yes then post your great big nerd rant on the boreds about how big a joygasum you just had playing age of warhamercraftgate:  revenge of the litch ring.  If not then keep your mouth shut or else the Fans' will getcha.

If for some god forsaken reason you are dumb enough to post an honest and objective review on these boreds whatever you do just let it stand.  DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES argue with the fan boys on here.  You cannot win.  It doesn't matter that they've only seen screenshots.  It doesn't matter that you've been testing Eve of the Planetside Fanatsy XI for 12 months they don't care.  What they care about is that somewhere outthere there's a game thats better than their mom telling them they need to take out the trash because we all know mom rep is easy to get.

I tried WoW.  My son was a GM for Blizzard and I played from Alpha to release.

I really *tried* to like the game.  WoW is wonderful pablum for the masses.  It's fun and easy to play for everyone, even people new to MMOs and/or casual players.

Personally, I couldn't get past the feeling my character and the graphics looked straight out of the comic strips in the Sunday Funnies.  It's very hard to like a game if you hate how it looks.  Another thing I didn't like is the grind for the best equipment.

WoW is fine for the casual social butterflies who are happy with it and who don't want to invest time and energy in another MMO.  They're happy playing with their spouse and friends in a simple, very familiar environment.  Nothing wrong with that.

But for many, in spite of expansions and tweaks, WoW is .. well, WoW.  Many avid MMO hobbyists have moved beyond it.   Friends who had stayed with WoW, over the last year or so,  have since quit as well because WoW answer for end game is a huge time sink at the higher levels doing raids.

Or if we go waaaay back into the first and second age it could be a wandering valar that decided to stay in arda. anyways, it COULD be possible and i'm pretty sure (hope i'm not wrong) that the lore will be respected, after all their game license depends on it.

Beside from that way to go turbine!!!!!!! time passes and the game is becoming more awesome.

Trust me, Turbine is anal about the Lore.

Think Valar.  And realize that the Runekeeper will be a dwarf class, more likely than not.

And you're right again!  Turbine will "allow" a new class that can actually do direct damage. WTG Turbine!

Now lets all pray (I've been beating them up on this) that Turbine actually expands the character creation screen to allow us to roll *EIGHT* characters.  Truly, only five sucks farts out of dead monkeys!
