You see, this is where Asheron's Call did it right.
Yes, if you wanted to raise your epeen (level) then you had to grind. However level wasn't nearly as important. Obviously a 20 was significantly different than a 1, but after you got so far the difference became less and less noticeable.
There was no endcap/endgame to asheron's call. Monthly i repeat MONTHLY added content across almost all levels ensured fresh things to be done. Leveling was not the focus of the game; exploration and accomplishment were more of a focus.
I haven't found a community in an MMO that was there just to have fun as much as the AC community was. I guess to go along with that... all of the other communities have been junk too.
I had the same feelings for asheron's call. The run to the dungeon was almost always scarier than the actual dungeon. Then a place I leveled in for quite a time would randomly be swarmed with hundreds of creatures significantly stronger than what was there before.
I remember doing certain dungeons and sweating and being shakey and stuff I was so worked up over the game. I'm not sure another MMO has the capacity to bring that out, I mean I'm much older now, and I lost my mmo cherry a long time ago.
I know for me the journey typically meant more than the accomplishment. When I went to get my lightning elemental stone I remember every detail of the run from the nearest portal in all the way to the end of the dungeon. I remember who died and didn't, etc. etc.. I don't remember doing a damn thing with that stone after i got it =(.
Well, gl and happy hunting to you and hopefully war can bring this back.
Best friend is a store manager at gamestop(ebgames). They WILL let you return it, and you WILL get your money back.
They frown on it because it's a negative in their books, but they will let you do it. I just would wait a while so they forget who you are to avoid the bitching that might occur.
I cancelled my account with them because for about a year it was worthless. Two days ago I see the "Subscribers get beta keys for AOC" So i re-up my account and all that jazz.
Maybe I completely missed it, or maybe they hid it in the fine print, but I saw NOTHING about this being a "refresh" contest to see how many people could get the keys first.
Fuck Fileplanet.
