    • Why are people saying that graphics matter?

I will gladly sacrifice from incredible graphics to decent graphics if the game runs smoothly and fairly lag-free.

But there is no way this game can do all they want it to do with top of the line graphics, no way.  It's amazing enough that it is 100% skill-based and has such a large world map.  I'm glad the graphics are as good as they are.  They aren't much below Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and those were just fine for me.

QFT. AoC itself proves that mixing high-level graphics with heavy instancing and more than 40 characters on-screen equals a recipe for a crappy game with unplayable lag.

i don't understand the graphics complaints either. only SOME of the scenes, SOME of the animations and SOME of the spell effects need a little work, the world, scenery, and full dynamic shadows are absolutely stunning.... the tree branches blow in the fucking wind for fuck's sake...

What  I really liked from the video was the general scenery and layout of the world.  It definitely looks original.  Kind of like what Old EQ was like.  Lots of different looking areas.

    • Why are people saying that graphics matter?
    • I've never commented on this game, and admittedly looked into it very little at all.  But I did just check out the latest video posted.  If they can do it all that is in that video, I'll play it.  I played UO when it first came out, text-based MUDs, and early Everquest.  I'm definitely more for what's shown in that video than what the big mainstream games deliver.

Probably in the minority of the new wave of mmo players no doubt, but this definitely appeals to me.

The only other possible MMO that even comes close to piquing my interest is the World of Darkness MMO that CCP is working on, and won't be out for quite some time.

Yes, the particle/explosion/etc. effects are definitely cheesy, but I can live with that if the gameplay itself is as cool as is shown in the video.  If it's not, oh well, not like it can do any worse than recent MMOs that are, in my humble opinion, garbage.

I'm the type that when I hear things like, "Oblivion is the best game ever!"  I shudder.  Yes, the initial WOW graphics-ness hit me for the first bit, then I realized how shallow and boring it was.

I can live with something subpar super insane, bring-computers-to-their-knees graphics, in exchange for gameplay, as well as huge battles that don't require downgrading graphics just to see them.

We'll see though how it turns out, it doesn't matter either way to me really.  Though it would be nice to see something unique rather than the same standard boredomfest mold that everyone is copying now, or barely deviating from.

    • TOP Selling PC Game List
    • Interesting list.  It seems that, generally, the older the game is, the more it sold.

Not always true, of course, but still...interesting to see.

One of the funniest games on that list has to be Dungeon Lords.

Absolutely horribly buggy game.  Yet, I will admit my friend and I did buy it...lol.  Though in some strange twist of fate for it being such a terrible game in parts, it is one of the few "action rpgs" that has combat which is, sadly, more active than most any action rpg.  It's kind of funny that even games like Oblivion can't do combat like Dungeon Lords.

If you haven't played it, you can do side/back/front rolls, back flips, attack/block actively.  As well as play multiplayer with 3 other people, though it never worked that well at all.

Most 'cities' had from one-four people.  Buildings had almost nothing in them.   There was water thrown down just anywhere so it led to water being "up hill"(?)

Funnier still, is the fact that they're making an expansion now because of it's "raging success!"  And even more, a Dungeon Lords 2...lol.

I guess a lot of people like myself were just a sucker for combat similar to something like Jedi Academy (though not that cool).

I still hope for some mmorpg to come along to do combat like this and Jedi Academy.  With backflips, rolls, real active shield blocking (if there is shields, I'd actually prefer something non-fantasy though if possible), action fighting 3rd person/fps style, wall runs/flips, climbing, etc.  Something like that.  Though lag would always be a problem, I think at least a reasonable chunk of people would still play it.  Lag be damned.

    • Does any Good 3d realtime vampire mmo exist ?
    • The way I read the quote about him saying, "There are no vampires," was just as though if you asked someone about something most people "in the know" know IS there but people won't talk about it.

I.e. he was just poking fun/playing with the WoD rules, that's all.

You're more likely not to see mages rather than vampires, considering how difficult they would be to implement.

But, yeah, the only possible hope for a MMO with not only vampires, but dark, gritty,  modern day, with magick/werewolves/gothic-esque type scenario would be this game.   At least in my opinion.

Hell, even for MUDs there really isn't any good White Wolf-based games that are any good.  There's some MUX/MUSH/etc. types for heavy roleplay, but not much else.

I'm very interested to see how this game will pan out.

Either this or a Shadowrun MMO, now that's what I'd also want.
