Once again, got jumped, lost weeks of work. I cancelled my account and uninstalled the game immediately.
You went into Lowsec with a ship you can't afford to lose?
This. First cardinal rule of EvE, follow it completely, and never deviate and you'll be fine. Do not fly it you can not afford to loose it.
It is totally open, you can get ganked anywhere at anytime for no more reason than 'because i can'. The consequences are the variable factor in this statement, it won't stop it from happening. Don't put all your eggs in basket either that always ends up badly.
I personally can't stick empire and live in 0.0 as much as i can, and i've had some epic fights!
the slide show of POS destruciton can get a bit soul crushing, but when you get a 200 vs 200 fleet fight that doesn't reduce you to glue then it's a feeling like no other in an MMO; although it blows to lag, not see anything and watch your BS turn into dust ![]()

yeah i noticed this when i played too, i was cool with the taking a few hours to train, hell i was ok with the 2day ones. but thats as far as it should go in the way of training time. 30 days to up a skill an not be able to train any others while your doing it is effin nutty.
ahhhh you'll notice it!
well worth the time sink.
I am one of the few left that picked the game up pretty soon after release in '03 and although i've had a few hiatus here & there i always end up coming back to EvE. With BS5 (whatever race you have chosen) and wep specific spec 5 you really notice a big difference; you'll absolutley tear stuff to peices be it NPC's, missions or PvP.
I personally have gone Caldari/Gallente and with BS5 & both lrg rail spec 5/lrg blaster spec/Cruise missile 5 & Torpedo spec 5 you do significant dmg with the choice of both long range sniping tom foolery or 'don't fire until you see the white's of their eyes
', admittedly you get to the point when training the big ones where you want to pull your hair out but when it's done it's done and you actually feel quite the sense of acheivement!
Not looking forward to dreadnought 5 though ![]()
One of things Pencilrick is trying to get across is that he's not compelled to get to LVL20. I have to say i felt/still feel the same. After force led by the hand from point A to B to C to the bad voice acting with no freedom of choice to do anything and enduring load screen after load screen after load screen and having to do stuff the game forces you too. no, 'ooOOo what's over there? i'll check it out!' if you've played previous MMO's you feel like herded cattle and everything instanced to oblivion.
First impressions do count contrary to popular belief. It's those first levels and impressions that are the ones that will put the hook in you or not, and if you're there thinking 'it's ok, it's better after LVL20' constantly whilst being spoon fed content than you're not really off to a good start; in fact when i did hit twenty all i wanted to do was log off and go back to EvE i was so unenthused and pissed off with it all. That combined with delayed server ups, extra last minute charges for the EA, funcom admitting that a lot of stuff isn't finished and EA & release players will be nigh on beta testers (heaven forfend people should pay heard earned money for a finished product these days, and i say that to the gaming market in general not jsus AoC), an antiquated and atrocious PvP/Spawn point system that is so bad every comapny to ever implement it has given it up for dead and you rightfully have yourself a dud release in the eyes of many.
To the fanboi's: plz note my lack of swearing, insulting and used plain written english in the vein attempt to help you see why there are a lot of frowning faces in the crowd. This release simply is not as good as it should have been, hasn't delivered on promises made, and why people have felt lied to by FC in attempt to grab their money for over-hype that uses bad features taken from games 8 years old or more.
What characteristics of an MMORPG do you look at most?
