I was never a Warhammer Fanboi, infact I never had much interest in it, I made a comment a while back after playing the game for a "too" short period of time, and I think I went in with a "this is gonna suck" additude, anyway, after release I went on to buy the game. Having a blast, it actually feels like theres a war going on, the community/people near each town will pull together in situations where they need to. The atmosphere is among the greatest i've seen in a mmorpg, No more WoW road funnels, Take a forest for example, I was in one yesterday where it was wide open, perfect for the forest PVP ambusher :) And it was very dense too, not the fake forest of the past, where 16 scattered trees meant it was a forest, Theres dense underbrush among with trees and other stuff. The scenerios are good for leveling, but thats not where the bread and butter is at. People fighting over territories was amazingly fun.
I wanted AoC to work...I really did, gave it every chance, and funcom kept making bad decisions, I did not want WAR to burn, but I never planned on playing it either. But here I am after release claiming it as My game.
So heres to a pleasant surprise :)
I would go on in greater detail, but i'm typing this while in one of my classes!
She will be greatly missed, But at least we got to know her for the time that we did. Missed, but not forgotten.
I think its enough when there's not one negative comment on this thread.....that alone tells what type of person she was/is.
Found this off the AoC official forums,
This was someones response to LordOrion ( Project Manager of AoC ) After he stated the AoC has more content then WoW did at release....The following statement is true to ALL new MMORPGs I believe.
LordOrion,
Here is what you and others in the industry miss:
You aren't competing with WoW in 2004. You're competing against WoW in 2008 (and forward). Many new MMO players don't care that AoC may have launched with more content than WoW did at launch - they only know WoW as it is now - not what it was (or rather, wasn't). You aren't competing with WoW polish circa '04, you're competing against WoW circa '08.
If you build a game for 2008, you have to compete with games as they stand in 2008. Not as they stood in 2004.
What happened then does not matter; it's only what happens now and moving forward. However, if you don't learn from the past, you're doomed to repeat it in the future.
I 100% agree that new mmorpg's "should" have as much content as any game on the market. But...is it possible?
No, I don't think it can, with no real mainstream "potential WoW killers" on the horizon, all hopes have been placed on WAR as the new Saviour of MMORPGS, This Holy Grail which will in hope, dethrone all other previous mmorpgs. With player expecations set on WAR higher then any game can achieve. This is not WAR's doing either, Its the players.
I think WAR will be a great game, but I don't think it can live up to all the expectations, Players will not take notice of all the things WAR has that other mmorpgs do not, they will only see the things WAR is lacking.
And Dear God, I know i'm going to get flamed for this, but WAR is a great game, and is above the standard MMORPG bar, However I don't see anything groundbreaking, or revolutionary. ( Which IMHO is what players are expecting ).
Perhaps I don't fully understand your question, but if your asking in terms of subscribers , will WOTLK compete with WAR? Absolutely regardless of which is the better game, WoW's success will be a factor. My personal opinion is WOTLK will effect the amount subscribers WAR will be getting. No I'm not a fanboi, I don't even play WoW. But hell I'll try them both.
Are you still playing (or subscribed to) your first MMO?
