To those who like FFA, no rules, no regrets...this is it.
This is why PvP always fails in MMO games. If there are rules the kids cry; if there are no rules, same.
It never works. Because societies fail under chaos. MMOs are mini civilizations and require at least some rudimentary laws. There isn't any way to do this... so all the gaming companies can do it try for the rediculous pipe-dream of balance through nerfing.
What ends up happening is that the 90% of the people playing the game stay away from PvP yet get beaten to death with nerfs that have nothing to do with their game mechanics.
Until MMOs start to have perma-death, there will always be this mindless mentality to PvP. When a character can die for real, then players will start to treat their characters like their lives mean something. Only then can real meaningful PvP with objectives that make sense be developed.

And sadly, I have to include myself in this accusation. Yes, I have had the "complainer hat" on for a very long time, but now, alas, I am taking it off and laying it down humbly upon my desk. It is time to give Vanguard its due.
Firstly, many fans are still making posts that say this game has come a long way. And who am I (or you) to question them? They wouldn't pull themselves away from their gaming time to write empty posts. Indeed, there must be some bit of truth to their claims.
Second, McQuaid and Butler themselves designed this game, and who better could have added their creative talents?
Third, if parts of the game seem empty, well, perhaps that's because you and I are not in it. Let us join, sign up, and log on this weekend and see for ourselves if other folks are around. My bet is that we bump into one another and probably spend the first five minutes laughing away our prior concerns about this game called Vanguard.
C'mon now. Take off your "complainer hats" and resub to "The Vision." What's $15? You spend more than that on a blind date.
"The Vision" is no longer there. If you can manage to find the original game faq compare it to what the game is now. Vanguard was supposed to be step towards a game that evolved based on player actions, but now it just another of the rinse / repeat EQ, WoW, etc clones that have become the golden ideal of game design.

I love the hypcrosisy of AoC fans..they cry for new new new..yet their playing AoC which only offers better graphics, spellweaving and an arrow combat system....all its Game Play Mechanis come from EQ1, WoW, ShadowBane, & SWG pre NGE....funny it took all the mechanics that made those games unpopular & some popular features and updated them with a tiny bit of spit letting their fanbois claim 'new'. Whats even funnier is they get pissed off when WAR fans point this out on their boards, the general boards, or even these boards but seem to have no problem coming here to obvious noob to MMORPG.com threads and posting BS.
You know atleast deeply research parts of WAR before speaking...I'm not saying its so uber new elite awsome but it has alot of features that make it stand out and away from WoW. The few things it took from WoW are the standard things that exist between all MMOs that have PvE.
Things it didn't take that make it vastly different....Living Cities, Living Guilds (the Banner System most definitly awsome), PQ system, an End Game that isn't based on horrible grindy PvE Kaplanesqe Raids (if you dont know what that means you should read up on Kaplan from EQ1..he invented the hell that is raids..left and went to WoW and gave them raids too). Hidden Boss Mobs, Hidden public Dungeons (Lairs), ...should I go on?
If you only scratch the surface then every single MMO is a clone.
WAR is NOT WoW ..its not a WoW clone...The clone Term is just a pissed off elistist term invented by people from EQ1 who were pissed off when WoW came out and called WoW an EQ1 clone. Its completely retarded to let this term continue.
You like AoC awsome..go play AoC...you like WAR awsome go play it..but don't ruin it for other people it just makes you look like a complete douche when you speak nonsense.
Just like AoC your precious WAR is yet another mindless clone of EQ1/2, WoW, etc. There is absolutely nothing that is "living" about this or any other MMO to date. Objectives, quests, end-game content, etc all just resets on a timer like every other game ever made.
When a game actually evolves and changes based on the actions of players, then it will be close to "living".
When a game comes out that is not an infinite lives FPS with the delusion of benefits, then there will be something "new".
When a game comes out that has something that vaguely resembles a thought out responses to the psychotic murderers known as PCs, that can react to the actions of PCs, that doesn't have canned repeatable quests and grinds, then there will be a game that does not clone the mindless console monkey mentality that is called an MMORPG.
Calling todays MMOs RPGs is in the same realm of thought and reasoning and callen a paint ball game World War II.
Agrueing about the merits of one MMO as better than another is about as worthwhile as agruing over the geo-political impact of said paintball game.

Not trying to flame anyone, but I'm kind of surprised at how many people are writing off WAR as same-old, same-old when all the "behind the scenes" articles I've been reading show WAR will be very different from WOW. Let's see - public quests, highly customizable characters, dozens of instanced battlefields instead of 4, open world PVP keep system, a loot system where you can just convert items to cash, and plenty of cool easter eggs for exploring the world. In my mind, WAR is picking up where WOW left off - which is one of the reasons I can't wait to play it.
Every game genre has it's set "style," and I'm not sure why everyone expects MMOGs to be so different. Most shooters involve running around and killing things through your rifle scope; most real-time strategy games involve base building and unit spamming. Let's face it - most MMOGs are going to follow the EQ/WOW model. Saying that AOC is a better game than WAR simply because of it's interface is like saying "ZOMG Crysis is such a Doom clone! I play Rainbow Six cause you can like control 4 guys instead of one!"
You can still have a very fresh and exciting gameplay experience by how things are presented. It's the little things that count the most, and I think Mythic's doing a heck of a job on nailing the details.
same old content mechanisms new flavor (quest engine)
same honor (renown) grinds
sadly the level capped character development has just gond down hill since EQ 1
so yep it's just another EQ/WoW variant / clone / wanabe / etc

I am just posting this to see how many players "won't" be playing Warhammer? I want any reason. I can tell you one of the reasons I'm not playing Warhammer is it's just another class base pvp system. I love my PVP, but I hate rock paper scissors version of pvp. So this is my reason, but to anyone not going to play Warhammer online I want to know yours.
I'm saddened to see that GW has sold out to have a half assed WoW clone made instead of going for either an MMOStrategy or a MMORPG based directly off the FRP. Sadly it will be just another waste of a good IP to satisfy the teen console monkey mentality, who won't appreciate the 2 decades of content behind what they are whining about.
