Laptops are easier to customize and put together than you think. There are several guides on the net to do it. I would check Toms Hardware. Either way customizing is better than buying from any company. Companies tend to buy in bulk and purchase cheap. Therefore you might get a computer from dell that costs 1k yet has a really crappy mobo. Remeber, when buying from a company, your purchasing the logo, not the parts. Customizing is the way to go and you may actually learn something.
You can custom build a laptop? I had no idea =o. But what you said about purchasing the logo is so true. I noticed that any company that lets you build your own pc won't let you choose the mobo that goes with it. And then they thrown in there own mock up parts.
Anyways, I would suggest just building your own pc. I recently built my own and it came out cheaper than a name brand.

Fail...this thread should now officially be over. The new "MMO" everyone was waiting for...just turned out to be another KOTOR game with online capabilities.
