I'm shocked. All these answers makes me wonder how much gaming scene has changed overtime. Lots of responses has "new age MMORPG has jerks" scene but to be honest, in games like UO where guilds had their own territory and miner/lowbie ganking was everyday was considered normal. newer games has restricted PvP to certain areas/factions and now if you finally have FFA you'd need etiquette before 'gank'. Yes, it was nice you to help him/her/it but doesn't mean he'll be nice back. Ofcourse it was bit jerkish but to be honest, I prob. would have done same, my general PvP mentality is be asshole but otherwise friendly & helpful.
I'm sure AoCs PvP scene will set in next 4-5months to certain areas to be general wellknown hotspots to get ganked by certain people, some known-but-not-written Conan-etiquettes which ALL MMORPGs have. Small example: WoW heroics un-needed blues DE, roll at end.
AO is like EVE, unless you devote your time to learn and play it further, its not so enjoyable. Best community, one of the best game mechanics and ability to solo has been always my big turn ons in AO. 1week is just a scratch on surface, dig deeper, get involved with active orgs and you get addicted ;)
WoW, Ragnarok Online, Planning to test AoC or LotrO, time to time i still log on EVE. Waiting graphic patch for AO.
Bind says hi to everyone \o/ NEPA lives forever in our hearts!
This is perhaps best MMORPG i have played so far, complexity, gamemechanics and so on are just on the spot what I enjoy but sadly when I played I kinda got annoyed of bugs it had, so I was 'forced' to quit, now waiting anxiously new graphic engine patch to get back on game which has developed from Hecklerkite to full and mature MMORPG. :) Been testing new expansions and it seems really nice, love what they did to SL quests to gain experience, no more feeling of miner. But because of old graphic engine, it still had same issues to run smoothly.
Played few years and been buying 1month when bored to test hows it developed. Only game with EVE Online which I have bought more than 1 account.
GIEF PATCH! =)
Yes, AO is bit more harder to grasp than other 'easy'MMORPGs like WoW, but theres also more depth on your characterbuild which makes it more interesting. You have more control what you can do with your charachter. Thats why we love it ;)
What characteristics of an MMORPG do you look at most?
