In an attempt to be constructive
I think the following could do with work:
1) Grass overlapping Village Path
2) Wood texture repeated on Village Path
3) Trolls look a bit odd, maybe it's how they're standing
4) Rows of grass on the same screenshot
5) Verandah stone building and roof
Hats off to them for succeeding with an independent MMO though!
Great review and very accurate!
AoC's 1-20 is a lot larger than most games' noob islands and is well worthy of its own review. The gameplay does change after that to something more akin to daytime with very limited dialogue (more dialogue to be added in an upcoming patch). TBH I did all of the daytime quests as well as nighttime on my main runthrough, just to get the decent equipment. I find even those quests just a bit more nicely crafted than the standard MMO fodder.
20-40 was ok for me too. I had to move between lands to get as much xp as possible.
40 is where the early polish starts to wear off.
40-50. XP a bit thinner on the ground but I found myself doing the 'daily' quests to get cash, xp, and the occasional rare drop. Alternated between the two 40-50 zones plus the resource zones.
Currently 51 and still have lots of quests to do before I leave the 40-50 zone.
50-60 and 70-80 are where the game lacks quests I hear, although there's a new 50-60 zone coming soon. I'm not in any hurry to reach 80 so am taking my time and levelling 'wide' instead of 'deep', if that makes sense - doing a bit of everything: levelling, exploring, crafting, RPing, learning, plotting :)
If it's Battlefield with more of a persistent feel to it (guilds with a decent command structure, social/hub areas, shops, capturable buildings, character progression) then I think it will succeed. It's not quite for the MMO audience, not quite for FPSers.
The trouble is, FPS games are evolving towards MMOs with the likes of BF and COD4 and those games are really slick, whereas MMOs are generally clunky and buggy. Huxley is in that middle ground where a really good persistent FPS could swallow up its customers.
But as to that screenshot, it looks pretty enough but doesn't give much sense of the game.
Maybe it's bugged, like the Armsman's Arena was until the recent patch.
Lot's of endgame stuff then. I'm taking my time, not quite lvl 50 yet and in no rush so hopefully this will be done just in time for me ![]()

I still dont see Star Trek being MMO friendly. The format and expected experiance just doesnt lend itself to solo/group gaming very easily. What I am waiting to know is how starship operations work in a group MMO setting. I figure its one ship - one owner type play. Away Teams will be fine, but what of the space experiance? I just hope it favors its ready made audiance, the Star Trek fan, and not try to break records in subs to players that dont care about its lore.
Stargate Worlds, however, has a show formula that begs to be a MMO. You can solo or group to run adventures instanced in the gate.
It's perfectly feasible if they follow a similar plan to something like Puzzle Pirates and use a load of NPCs.
You want to take your nice shiny Miranda class ship out? No problem... you get a crew comprising Ensign Bolian Newb, Ensign Vulcan N'wb, Ensign Klingon K'Nughb, and so on... until you can fill the positions from live players... or you can just take the NPCs and go touring. They'll suck compared to real players, but they'll at least get you from A to B if you're ferrying stuff.
You need more xp in Astronavigation? No problem... sign on aboard the USS Newb Cruiser under Captain James T. Newb, take your bridge position and practice until you're ready for a real vessel.
It's already working for Puzzle Pirates, why wouldn't it work for a Star Trek MMO?
I'd love it work this way, for my guild to be the ships crew. Lots of raid-type missions that improve our rating with Starfleet and allow us a better ship. For soloing I could beam down to wherever we are currently in orbit or get a shuttle for places further away.
Let's have more of these rumor news posts, MMO gossip is cool :)
