OP, you are full of it. Period.
I played from 20th to 29th never once instancing. Not once.
Did you even play this game? Are you so ego-linked to some old outdated game that your fragile self esteem forces you to attack anything that threatens the old outdated, ancient games?
Just wondering what your real motive is here.
Er. Yes I play this game. Click on the triangle to the left of your mini-map and see how many instances you're in.
Be prepared for a little shock.
To bad you are confused with instances and zone cloning, an instance is a place where YOU and your groupmembers can adventure ONLY, no one else is allowed to come inside YOUR instance..Zone cloning is done to keep your game playable and still have GREAT graphics and detail..
Sadly, I do not think that calling the phenomenon that is considered a problem by another name will change the fact that it is considered a problem.
The problem you say, what is that really ?
Sure right now there is problems on the PvP servers that people bail out of fights, but be sure that this will be fixed as soon as possible, this is cheating..ea you can't change zone during a fight..This is the ONLY valid problem I see..
There is still one HELL of a diffrence in a instanced game like D&D Online or Guild Wars or even Hellgate London compared to this game..There you enter a zone with or without a party, but NOONE else is legit to enter this zone, but in AoC it's all open..
And as a matter of Proof on this when the population has spread out in the world there WILL be less and less open instances(copies of a zone), this is what happened in EQ2 and also will happen in AoC..And again this is only done so you can have a somewhat fluid game experience
So, it's an open instanced world.
So what? It's still an instanced world.
It's like each AoC zone is a kind of a WoW bg. You can enter any of the "AVs" but you don't have to wait in line or be grouped. However they are still a bunch of instances and they are not "open world".
AoC has no "open world" in any commonly accepted sense. It is made up out of a bunch of multiple-instanced zones. An open world always has only one instance of each given zone, by definition. Why? Because it is THE world - the actual place your character lives. Having multiple copies of the world that you can jump to and from for me totally destroys any illusion that I'm playing in a real, persistent environment.
This is correct, but if you go back and look at the posts, this wasn't mentioned or intentionally left out, the OP talks about AoC as if it was more like Guild Wars and Dungeons and Dragons Online wich are REAL instanced games...And this isn't the case, I see several people in this thread that believes that AoC is just like GW, and that is FAR from the truth,,
I can agree that the immersion from a totally seamless world isn't there, but on the other hand a seamless world can be just as plagued with reminders like zone changes(like the chunk stuttering in Vanguard), the piss poor performance Vanguard had,(Atleast in the beginning)..And again, look around in all houses, dungeons etc etc, only the most needed things are there, othervise everything is empty, there are no details to talk about..AoC is full of these details and EQ2 had this aswell, and this is what you get with this type of engine...
And again, the PvP issue will be fixed..It must be considered an exploit, even on the PvE servers it must be considered an exploit if you can use it as a teleport to zone start..Maybe they should really consider taking away that knob on the radar and only make it so you have to interact with certain objects in game to change zone, this is how EQ2 does it..EA A Door for instance..
Its this kind of thing that is getting people's backs up. This bone headed refusal to accept facts. It is an instanced game LIKE DDO and GW. What part of that don't you understand? That doesn't necessarily make it bad, but because many of the Fanboi's percieve it as bad, they rush to try and defend it in complete ignorance.
If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck; buddy, it's a duck. There is absolutely no evidence to support the fact that AoC is not a "real instanced game" as you put it, there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.
S
You are an idiot..Sorry pal..AoC is NO where close to GW..It's you that doesn't know the diffrence between these games..
Guild Wars and D&D Online= If you zone out in guildwars/D&DO no other player can join you in that instance unless he's grouped with you, and you will never EVER meet any players what so ever in these zones..THEY ARE PRIVATE INSTANCES..The Only places that are common with other players are the CITY HUBS..And these hubs uses the same system as AoC to multiply a zone for performance issues ONLY
AoC uses the exact same system as EQ2 does and Tabula Rasa..
QUOTE FOR TEH WIN!
pvp is stupid at its core? lawl. What are we all doing here then... lets go play the sims
People may perfer different things, but i'm just going to talk about what i expect in a MMORPG.
In a mmorpg, i expect the ability to interact with EVERYONE that plays on the same server. Friend or foe, people i know and people i don't. If you are only able to play with people you know, who are already your friends, that defeat the purpose of playing a MMO. I can go play single player RPGs with friends over LAN if i wanted to. The whole point here is to meet new people, and interact with them as your character developes(levels up)
Take lineage 2 for example, a game with fine graphics yet no instances whatsoever. I started playing the game by myself, without knowing anyone in the server. Yet as i lvled up, i met all sorts of people, friends and enemies, they affected my in-game experince from lvl1 to lvl75 the ENTIRE time. Server politics were developed, and the history of the server being played out infront of my eyes with myself in it. In the end, every single person who played on the server had a role in the over all RPG experince of this MMO. Get it? Every single player in the "MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER" population made their name into the overall "ROLE PLAYING" experience that the game delivered. Thats what it means to be a MMORPG for me.
Now does AoC deliver that sort of experince? I doubt it. On a pvp server, people who killed me in one zone may never appear again for another 30 lvls in the game. Someone i talked to for a few minute but have not had the chance to be friends with yet may not appear in my game(my instances) for a long time. Me, along with a few friends, are always interacting with a small portion of the total population on the server. We are always lvling/fighting/dying in this small circle of people. There will never be the epicness or the MMO experince that games with no instances can deliver.
