Thinking about this logically....
When the game was first in development, dual core was probably just being released and quad core was something in the near future.
Since then, there has been a huge leaps in development of GPU, CPU and RAM.
I would expect much like WoW has with Dynamic shadows for WOTLK that xCore compatability will be added fairly shortly after realse, (say one year).
I cant prove the above as I have not looked at dates when dual/quad core came out against when Mythic were building the system. Someone maybe of the game industry who reads these forums might be able to shed some light on this.
