I can think of very few things better years in to those games too. AoC is basically WoW at its core. So I am shocked that the WoW fanclub doesn't like it. What do you believe is better about those games? (and comparison of community and extent of content etc. means nothing to a game that has been out a few hours)
Whoa, whoa, whoa!!
I thought AoC is NOTHING like WoW and it's a truly revolutionary next-gen thing which will change the face of MMOs with its never-before-seen original awesomeness?
Wasn't WAR supposed to be a WoW clone?
generally, anything thats online and has more than 1 player is now considered a WOW clone

Ok, this game is NOT WoW, thankfully! People should stop complaining because it isn't exactly like WoW. The areas are broken up into multiple instances (much like EQ2 and TR) to prevent massive lag that would be there from hundreds of thousands of potential simultaneous players. The game would just lag out and drop if it were an "open world". And it uses "zoning" for a similar reason. There is just too much data and too many players to be in a single continuous world.
Another one pulling WoW out of thin air...
Please show me where in the OP, WoW is invoked as how they want the game to be?
Amazing... WoW is like the wildcard argument against everything now.
Complaint: "I don't like the game 'cause there's not enough areas"
Reply: "It's not like WoW! People need to stop thinking it's like WoW!"
Complaint: "I don't like the graphics style, and the armors don't look right"
Reply: "It's not WoW! Stop expecting it to look like WoW!"
Complaint: "The game has too much instancing"
Reply: "It's not like WoW! I wish people would stop comparing it to WoW!"Complaint: "My child won't eat their vegetables!"
Reply: "Your children are not like WoW! Stop comparing them to WoW!"Complaint: "My car won't turn over, and I'm late for work"
Reply: "Stop comparing your car to WoW! It's not using the same engine!"
Yes... I'm being facetious.. but it gets the point across.Seriously... can people at least start addressing the arguments people are actually making, and stop invoking WoW to give themselves something to argue against? Not every argument being made is automatically linked to Blizzard's game. Some arguments - like the OP's - are clearly made on their own merit, without comparison.
It reminds me of the old vanguard stuff, where any critisizm was instantly responded to with "THIS ISNT WOW!!11". We're all well aware its not WoW,but why exactly people think theres the need to constantly do the 'fashionable' WoW bash thing when arguing about something totally unconnected is ridiculous.
"Im really enjoying the game, but I had some trouble with lag in a city"
"SO WHAT IRONFORGE WAS ALWAYS LAGGY AND BUGGED ITS YOUR SYSTEM NOOB"
skill balancing is taking place right now,as theyre sorting out the new overworld,so they arent waiting for open beta to do that though im sure that there will still be balancing needed even then.

I think theyre sorting the big problems that mythos has skill wise as theres been a lot of topics and issues brought up about them. Meteor, telsas, blade breaker and a few gadgeteer rifle skills are totally dominant, and some skills such as field of fire, flame trap, bauble trap and blazing blade are really useless. it will be nice to finally see some balance come in as its sorely needed. The heradries and crafting are being rebalanced right now too.
Theyve squeezed in stack splitting as well
and I hope the market place gets in soon as it will really help with the whole crafting thing.
Seeing as theres lots of topics cropping up about performance, how about we see some stuff posted up so that people can get an idea of whats possible on what spec machine?
I saw a video yesterday of conan on 'low' settings and it still looked really nice, which I was surprised by.If you look at lotro, you can run it on practically anything due to the vast settings range, but of course it looks like a 2001 ps2 game on low. lotro looks amazing on high settings of course, but as i say i was pleasantly surprised by how nice conan looked on budget.
So im suggesting anyone whos willing post up a screenshot of how the graphics are looking on their machine and what fps theyre getting at the settings theyre using. Even better, anyone whos posted a youtube or putfile vid up of EA ,link it here :)
so what you need:
what your current specs are
screenshot of how the game looks on your comp
fps in and out of cities.
Thanks. ![]()

My son's rig is a
AMD 3500 (2.29) single core
2 gig of DDR 400 ram
7600GT Video Card
7200 rpm HD
Win XP
He is getting 25-42fps in most areas on low settings with shadows off.
Occasionally he drops to 12-15fps for a seconds or two when entering a new area.
thats actually running pretty good on that spec of PC. im guessing with a little more ram it would be even better.
In light of the recent update which changed the effects of certain AoE powers for the Tempest of Set, what is your favourite Priest archetype class in Age of Conan?
