I love ding'ing... and hate grinding for 2 days to get a lvl when you're only 70% to cap (pehaps, i'm a whimp... but i have bad memories of grinding in DOAC in the early days, making painfully slow progress, which could all be lost with 1 or 2 deaths... perhaps i'm dreaming)....
having said that though... i'm gonna fight the urge to lvl for the sake of lvling.... Like i've said before, if all you're concerned about is hitting cap and playing endgame stuff, perhaps this isnt' the proper genre for you....
Personally i think it should take the average player a year or 2 to hit cap :)... but it's always fun to ding, and get to perks... so perhaps stretch it out over like 300 lvls :)
Hmm... now to pick a server and type (pvp, pve, rp), and a class....
Never had such a hard time trying to pick a class....(now that rangers can only really throw arrows about 2 feet, and might as well use their bows to harvest cows or something:) )
God... is it really still 2 days away... grrr... we get to play tomorrow midnight est (edt?)
Where are the border kingdoms? I never saw thim in OB... did one of the resource areas... was cool, there was music playing like in "The Sound of Music"... long tall grass swaying in the wind.... moo moos everywhere...
I wonder what lvl you can start to pvp on a pve server?
blah blah blah.... can't wait to trample some peeps on my rhino, or knock down some walls on me mammoth.... (anyone want a nice lvl 25 recurve bow? boo ranger range nerf... boo boo booooooo). Gonna eat me some rangers for lunch, yummy.....
hell yes, what a blast. Best mmo experience in 15 years. I don't think i will roll on a pvp server.... but it was fun as hell. Between pvp mini games and world pvp, i had over 1000 kills with my assassin, and sadly almost 500 deaths, lol.
overall, i think class balance is excellent. I have been owned by well played toons of all classes. however, if an assassin gets a steathed jump on a caster... it's pretty much over. Having played a ToS for a few hours as well, I understand their pain... but if get a jump on them as a TOS it's all over....
I will be surprised if this doesn't eventually reach WOW numbers over the next few years.
can't wait....
I'm loving it... but the combo system is kicking my butt... I get crushed in pvp. I cant' figure out where to place my hands or what control changes to make to be able to use combos, still be able to move and adjust shields...
If i leave my hand resting on the 123 keys.... it's a real crapshoot as whether my pinkie is gonna find the control key vs the shift key.... There must be a better way!
Game runs pertty good for me on Vista x64, 4 gig ram, 8800 GTS (512 meg), E8400 (3.0ghtz)... Yes, I am seeing some of the problems mentioned in the new sticky regarding shaders, and zoning... but overall, it runs great!
I have no idea what Funcom is doing... but overall I'm ecstatic, I know where my mmo dollars will be going for a couple of years! The only thing i dislike about the graphics is everything feels a big static compared to VAnguard with it's swaying tree's and what not...
As for possible having us using an older client, I'll add just this... As a developer, If i had a version of a program i was writing that has already been tested by small group (closed beta testers) but now I wanted to test out our servers, i would not give my most recent build, with changes from just a few days ago, to a bunch of non professional testers who were not bound by an NDA. They clearly feel they have a large enough closed beta group of testers to do the actual testing,... why expose themselves by releasing an untested build to stress test the servers?
I currently work for a small software company with no QA department, and it scares be to death every time I give them a new build and they install it at a hospital the next day! YIkes.... No one in their right minds, who didn't have to, would push out the very latest tip version of a build to a bunch of noob testers who are running around shouting "BOOBIES" go swimming! bug! OMFG!"
Personally, while there are still some rough edges, I think it's awesome! The biggest down side is the high hardware requirements are bound to hurt their subscription numbers....
just my 2 cents! Cant wait for release!
