How this horrible game even got a mention is beyond my comprehension. The only redeeming quality I could find was that it was free. I tried it out and played for a few hours and this is what I thought.
1. Graphics - Beyond horrible - Makes original EQ look like the best graphics ever made. No way to switch from 1st to 3rd person. Sure you can see for a mile, but your looking a miles of blocky junk.
2. Tutorial - There isn't one. Supposed to be a starter quest lady, but she wasn't anywhere near where she was supposed to be. Never found her. Great way to introduce new players to the game. Controls are non-standard MMO so you need a tutorial.
3. Quests - There aren't any. You are dropped in the middle of town with nothing equipped, nothing to do and no where to go and no direction and no map. I'm sure this game has a point, but after three hours of randomly running around trying to accomplish something I gave up from sheer frustration.
4. Gameplay - I'm sure some people will enjoy this game, but spending all my time running up and down a river looking for one plot of clay while getting stuck on game geometry items or not being able to climb out of 3 inches of water or jump over a pebble was enough.
Overall Game rating 2 out of 10.
AoC is more like guild wars than a traditional MMO. Grouping while possible is not even encouraged or necessary except for a few quests or instances.
You do like instances right? Because your going to be going back and forth and back and forth ad nauseum between them and loading and reloading each time. Even getting in a group you need to zone. Summon is an option but still doesn't work. so you have to run to the nearest zone or rezz point just to join the right instance and then run all the way to where ever your group is going.
AoC is a great game in concept just as Vanguard was. Sadly neither were implemented correctly. AoC isn't anywhere near as bad, but its not a good MMO either. Average at best.
Yeah its funny how people complain about how easy WoW is and this game is much much easier to level.
The mentoring or level up to the highest person in your group is abused to the point of absurdity. You can take a level 20 newbie out of tortage and level him up to 79 if you have a level 80 in the group and then go grinding EXP in level 80 instance. Ive seen guilds doing this and getting their members 20 levels a day. Boring sure, but effective.
No need to buy spells, armor or whatever. Doing the quests will get you all the armor you need. Spells and upgrades are free and given to you instantly. Food and drinks are available but not necessary.
This game is not worth buying right now. Maybe...big maybe in a few months when things are working and they have stopped making people pay for beta testing then it will be worth it.
Hell you cant even create a character right now so your better off saving that money.

Check it out. You make macros that do the same thing with one button push. Im not saying its impossible for him to do that, but the lighting of the buttons looks very consistant between pulses. Most of your high ranked PVP guilds actually require you have a keyboard that is capable of doing macros. Yet anohter reason why PVP sucks. Gankers and macros remove all skill.
