    • Never thought I would say this
    • You're right. To boot, they have a mix of options for the "easy mode" / casual people and the hardcore alike. For example, at level 70, you can opt to run level 62 instances just for fun or you can challenge yourself with the Heroic versions of the instances. If that's not challenging enough, then try to join one of the more hardcore raiding guilds and try on some of the 25-man instances. If you like to have fun with PvP but don't want to be stressed out, play some battlegrounds. Want a bigger challenge in PvP, then try your luck at the Arenas. Or, you can just spend your time crafting and grinding for materials to become a wanted resource and make money, work the autionhouse, etc. Or, you can just chat and play around. Something for everyone and very stable.

Also, now that they have really deep pockets ($$$) any MMO that comes out with something really cool and is technically feasible, WoW can afford to patch in the functionality and poof, their right back on top. They can afford the talent and resouces to change anything they want just about anytime they want if the need arises.

Love it or hate it, the monster that is WoW will continue to dominate for quite a while.

    • will i have to do patch again?
    • No, as a matter of fact, the downloader would install all the expansions also so you would not have to use the CD / DVD at all. Just use that for the activation codes when you get it.

    • Group Roles, getting old concept ?
    • I think the bottom line is that even if you don't have the classical tank/healer/dps roles, no matter what you do, in a group-based game, you will always need to end up with some kind of unique role for each group member to give the best gaming experience. You still need to satisfy the human need to feel wanted, accepted, and unique during their playing session.  Regardless of how the MOB AI develops, unique roles are needed or why play? Why do you think people spend a month trying to get that special Epic weapon. I can bet you the average people doesn't  do it for the technical reasons, they do it to stand out from the crowd. It's human nature. EQ2, LOTR, Vanguard fail in the "Wow, look at that!" factor. Regardless of the gameplay, I bet you the subs with WoW are higher, in part, because of that fact alone. Brilliant.

    • Any new games resemble EQ1?
    • To answer your question, personally, I haven't found anything comparable. I've been playing WoW the last few years but the burn is getting to me. LOTR, Vanguard, EQ2, LIneage 2 are just too similar to be anything worth switching to (in my opinion). I haven't tried AoC yet because it looks like more of the same with even more button mashing so will wait and see how it goes in the community.

As far as EverQuest, I logged in to my SOE account and saw they gave me 21 days to play EQ1 so I am. I must tell you, if you can get past the graphics, they have made improvements to the system and, as it always was, the challenge and sense of adventure is still better than the other games I listed above (excluding AoC since I haven't played it). Here's some things of note that I have noticed from playing again.

      - corpse recovery is no longer necessary. you can pay to have your corpse summoned to certain areas.

      - mana regen is not as painful. after you have been out of combat for 30 seconds, the regen goes much faster so downtime between OOM sessions is now 1-3 minutes depending on your buffs but worst case, 3 minutes. This is still not like being able to sit down and drink to full in 10 seconds like WoW so it's still something you have to get used to. But, it actually makes you think a little more about Mana management than in some of the other games, even when fighting trash mobs.

      - I am on Veeshan and the community is no WoW but the chat is not filled with Chuck Norris and Your Mom jokes which is quite refreshing. It's also nice to see people exchanging buffs, etc. just like the old days. There are enough people to say there is a community though. You won't be the only person on the server :) I saw 3 gold seller spam messages which is less than I get in WoW in 6-8 hours of playing.

      - So far, leveling does not appear to be quite as painful. I played a few hours over 2 days and am at level 13 with a new toon. Of course, I know it will grind to a halt eventually but at least getting to higher levels will feel like an accomplishment.

      - The user interface is not as user-friendly and robust as the new games as you probably know. I almost quit before I got everything set up (keybindings, window positions, etc.) but I stuck it out and now it's fine. You just have to get past the frustration of figuring it all out :) I was gone a long time so it took me a while to get my bearing straight again.

That's all I have for now. Hard to say how long I will stick with it once I get to where groups are required. I don't have any personal experience with lvl 20-70 in the current world so we'll see....

What are your views on PvP?

I don't like PvP combat.
I think it is the best part about MMORPG's.
I don't care either way.
