hi, my name is James I work with Pheonix Concepts LLC. We are making a CyberPunk MMO known as "XShift Online" which is nearing its tech demo completion in the next 2 months. We are passing proof of concept into a main demo which is coming together. AS of June We will be hosting meetings with initial investors in which we will present, and pitch our game.
here is where we stand currently, we have approximately 4-6 NPC, and player characters and various other creatures I and other artists have completed or am in progress of completing. We have a actual working "world editor" which we are piecing together into the world map of our city to put into the engine. Our programmer is doing major customizations to the engine that will far exceed its original purpose and performance characteristics.
the engine we are using is Jmonkey engine, the engine is OPENGL/JAVA based. We are doing alot innovatiive features which should prove both useful, interesting and beneficial for the player.THe engine by itself is okay, but the programmer we have currently has done miracles with it, and has truly customized it to the point its no longer the orignal engine it once was. He even programmed our world editor from scratch and has allowed us to do work at a much faster pace testing, debugging, proofing concepts and implementing layouts into world maps to be put into the engine.
As of now, we are doing fine with modelers, and environmental artists for now though we could use more but you do have be good in environments, and or character modeling, so if you want throw me an email on this account name and ill get in contact with you.
However more importantly the past few animators we have brought into this project have proven less than reliable. What we need is 1-3 animators who know MAya 8.5 or 2008 version preferably 2008 version. We will be exporting in MD5 format into our world editor. We need someone or someones to be able to rig, and animate a Character or creature. this is the only thing is that is holding us up. once we get characters animated we can turn on the collision detection, and phsyics and start walking in our "city". Once again the reason this is paramount is due to the investors meeting we will be having next month, we may not need the demo at the first meeting but when and if they are interested in further communication and possiblly invest in our game with full funding we will need the ncessary demo to promote our game.
here is the main site.
http:www.xshiftonline.com its a bit basic but its being redesigned so check out the music we have, the renders we have made for both the trailer, the actual in game screenshots and renders of the new corp plaza areas that are being designed. From what I gather from our composer he has made over 10 hours worth of music 140 tracks of music that scream Xshift So far his talent has pI also have personal images on photobucket.com I have avialable so if interested I can submit these to you as some of these are in fact a bit more secret and only for those truly interested.
**people we have come from professional fields that range from game studios in AL who helps us in his spare time, a programmer who worked for the Dept of Defense , and another programmer both who have fluent experience in Jmonkey engine. 90% of the people we have currently have on the team graduated from FullSail. me I worked 2 indie Games in 2003 utilizing darkbasic "SNow island graphic revamp" and a game project based on Black hawk down incident but different from Novalogic version, assisted on CIS/BHD mod for BF1942/BF2, I hold a background in architectural Engineering/design from Polytech.(provides sourcing/talent to build and develop a realistic future dystopian city) and Graduated from Pratt institute with a degree in digital media with full discreet 3dmax/Maya training in CGI, and game dev.
what we need is like minded individuals who can keep their eye on the prize. Animators are crucial right now. with the meeting coming soon next month in june, we hope to gather what resources and talent we can to get this demo done, and scoop those people up into the studio to continue to develop the real thing from there. SO if you think you can do this by all means throw me a message with your aim, or msn messenger so I can talk to you discuss with you your possible role and further discussion on the game state. thank you.
good choice on LOTRO. I am hoping to go back soon. now that io have vista prem its gonna look bitchin.
my best buy has them. quite a few actually.
whats this whole issue? serioously. if your not willng to upgrade your computer, you shouldnt have to. but dont have misaligned expectations and feel like you were left out. the game does run great on lower end systems,b ut the truth of the matter is, this game is in fact a major beast graphically, and does in fact require the latest and greatest to run it at high. hell my last system before i upgraded recently was a 5600 X2(2.8ghz stock), 2gb of PC6400 ram and a single 8800 GTS 640mb system with a raptor x HD(pretty cheap now mind you) i was able to run pretty much max on tis game. and the loading was around 3-5 secs top if that. i found the game itself quite engaging.
now as for wow? yes part of the sucess of wow is in fact its accessibility on so many systems and its "easy to play hard to master" game play. you can play it on a 4 year old system and not blink twice. but like any game it has its downfalls, and had its growing pains. will AOC break WOW? hell no, personally I dont want it too. wouldit be nice for AOC to garner 500k-1 mill players? hell yeah, that will be a definite success. lets get real people, a MMO doesnt have to be the end all be all of MMO's to be enjoyable, its all about your personal preference, what you like, and what you enjoy. doesnt make you wrong, doesnt make you right, it just means this is what you enjoy. for me AOC Is what I enjoy, i played wow til lvl 70 as a priest, i found it boring after a while and found it an empty experience at the end, but thats just my "preference" nothing more, doesnt make me wrong, doesnt make me right.
in the end we have to make it clear and get it through some of your thick skulls ( you know who you are) that there are going to be people who prefer, or dislike what you like. but if they cant communicate in such a way that is respectful, mature, or remotely intelligent, oh well, thats their downfall. me, im going to enjoy AOC, and Im going to play it.
well your all entitled to your opinion. if you dont like it, oh well, thats a shame. me i like AOC and will be playing it. but ill state that since you dont like AOC doesnt make your wrong or right, its just your preference. just remember that, its all a matter of preference.
the load times werenever an issue for me. i loadedin 3-4 seconds if i went into a new zoneed area. then again could be i hvae a high end system and a fantastic cable connection. but either way, found game to be quite engaging, story quest voice overs were done very well. fighting system i liked, definitely better than mashing 1,2,3 buttons, this game asctually requires a bit of strategy and tactics if done right. but once again its all about preference your entitled to what you prefer.
What characteristics of an MMORPG do you look at most?
