With the way they handled the pay-for beta and pay-for prelaunch download, and the hiding of what features the game had until after you purchased it, I think its fairly evident they will do just about anything for money. Poorer subscription numbers than they expected will up the ante even more. Personally I dont think there is a company out there that makes a more perfect candidate to sellout to SOE than Funcom.

What about 350 employees, offices in 4 different countries, 4 AAA titles, a couple of projects in development and 600k+ AoC boxes sold?

I think you are overestimating SOEs buying power mate.

Are you serious? 4 AAA titles? roflmao   you call The longest Journey and Anarchy-Online AAA ttitles? get the hell out of here for real.

    • AOC -The doom and gloom of 08?

It all began with SWG in early august 03 which wasn't my first MMO but it was my first launch experience .I will elaborate by saying it was a few weeks after the initial release due to information gathered by forums (The game was pretty unplayable for a few weeks, heavy lag in cities , frequent crashing ,Memory leaks ,etc.etc).

Well my initial experience within galaxies was by far the most up and down . From a game play stand point most of my skills (abilities)seemed to work , But frequent spikes of lag were common causing skills to misfire , other times it would take 20-30 sec's for it to register my commands .From a Content stand point though nothing was in place . Quests were available but completely worthless (no xp ,dismal amounts of credits, no items) This actually really never changed with galaxies until NGE years later. Mounts , Vehicles and Ships were Far off in the development cycle , So travel was a chore (to say it lightly ) largely due to player cities being in their infancy  (no shuttles) . By now you might be wondering what made this game fun at all ? The community and the PVP . Which never changed from my perspective throughout the games life span .

My next launch was eq2 on Nov 04 , My first Launch day experience . This game by far had the worst launch I have seen , Bugs , Bugs , Bugs galore .. Crashes were a constant annoyance . Server lag was a persitent factor  , Just about every class was broken . Graphics glitches were also an annoying disturbance .My next Launches were with Vanguard and POTBS which I had been in during beta. I add these games with EQ2 because just about everything that plagued EQII was a problem with both Vanguard and POTBS.

Now what do these games have to do with AOC and my topic heading ? It's the simple fact that none of these games have died as of yet , Vanguard and EQII have both arguably been turned around by SOE and are doing ok at present . SWG is hitting it's 5 year mark and POtBS is atleast still running . AOC in my opinion runs considerably better than any of those games at their launch. And seems to be plagued by far less issues as a whole .

So where does the assumption come from that this game will go the way of the dodo ? What evidence are you comparing this game against that suggests it will turn belly up Auto assault style ?

Were to start. I started mmogs abit before you back to UO/eq1 having played almost all the pay ones,Swg I was there on release date as well yup it was laggy and buggy but the game was sooo open ended had so much potention was a MASSIVE world not cut off by loadin screens every 2 minutes.New classes like entertainers, creature handler.More ppl were willing to work with Swg till the bugs got fixed because they seen what alot of ppl did a huge open ended sand box.

EQ2 I did that launch as well I hear alot of ppl claim bugs worse launch ever and I never had any problems with Eq2 so I guess I got lucky it sure wasn't anywhere close to the worse launch of a mmo that title belongs to another funcom mmog Anarchy-Online.

AoC will get better and will survive I have no doubt problem is funcom did the exact mistake they did with AO they took what could have been a great game shoved it out the door buggy as hell to cash grab probly is no matter how good AoC might turn out to be a huge % of ppl will never give the game another shot again same as what happened to Anarchy-Online.Funcom has alot of great ideas for mmo's too bad the ppl runnin the company are so greedy they don't care what kinda buggy piece of crap they give to ppl so long as they make some cash.

Won't happen even if AoC did a 360 put everythin in game they promised at launch the WoW xpac will squash them as well was WAR release and even if I havent played lotro for 7 months when expansion comes out I will come closer to buying it than I would AoC.Funcom did exactly what me and alot of ppl said they would do  they created a massive amount of hype lied to ppl about what would be in at launch  then lied and cash grabbed as much as they could.

Anyone who played Ao and knows funcom knew better for one moment to think they would do anything besides that.

    •  Monthy fee is what 15 bucks? I can't even remember been so long since I played it I think Direct 2 Drive has a special on it for 19.00 you get all the expansions and 30 days play time might want to look into that 4 bucks more than what a resub would cost ya but still not bad as you will have all the expansions.

    •  Unless they changed it thats how it is.Was there dirty/cheap tactic to make ppl stay subbed After 2-3 months canceled they would make your account/key invalid.
