As of today the model that is ever present in MMORPG's is the loot model, players get exited because they found the Sword of thunder ..It's an easy way of making a MMORPG fun without making a great effort..
So..Should not something that is fun be in a game ? Yes ofcourse it should, but maybe not as the prime feature..
Well..I have given these things many thoughts and it's basically the loot that makes these games boring in the end aswell..I won't deny that I'm not finding it fun to get a nice sword or chestpiece in EQ2 or better my STATS with it..But..If the game is better in the most common thing it does, will it not outshine the loot or the urge to get better loot as a nr one feature in MMO's..
This is also the prime reason for it being there, to better your characther. Roleplaying games has been like this forever..So Why change it ?
I will try to answer why we need to change this or atleast divert focus of the "loot" and make the MMORPG's fun without having the focus on loot.
First... I think it would be hard to make such a game, aspecially in todays market with World Of Warcraft that has set a developers frame on how a MMORPG model is going to look like...Most MMORPG's was like this before aswell, but WoW has made sure the rest will be looking the same aswell for years to come...It's not hard to see this...This is where the money is, this is what we want, 9 milj people can't be wrong , can they ?
Secondly...It would also be hard to make such a game since it would mean that this game has to be fun in other ways than finding loot..
In the beginning of computer roleplaing games, most such games had a strategic ground, making it good because the combat was interessting, with tons of options you fought with your avatars in mostly "turn based combat" ..The TBC is today more/less gone or it's a niche market at best..These games also had "hot loot" ofcourse, but there was something to play for more than just "loot"
As I see it todays games has none of the combat dept that was present in many of the older CRPG's..Games like EQ2 or Final Fantasy Online(Haven't tried this one) has tried to create interessting combat models with heroic opertunities, but sadly atleast EQ2 has failed in such an attempt, the combat is not interssting enough, most players do not even use this feature...Basically it was/is a failure
My belief is that if a developers would come up with a GREAT combat model, that involves the dept of the older CRPG mixed with todays fast action, much like the one in EQ2 , but only so MUCH better..It has to be THE SOLE REASON for why you fight, the fights has to be FUN, so fun that it takes away all focus from the loot urge..
Today we have a model that works the opposite way, it's the loot that makes it worthwhile most of the time..Thats the reason we will put up with endless "GRINDS" , and thats also the reason why "gold sellers" has their buissness set in stone.. And this is also the reason many write angry posts about Chines Goldfarmers etc..But who can blame them for trying to make money..And in the other end there is the buyers that tries to compete with less gametime but buys the loot instead..
Loot is the root to all evils in these games today..If they found a way to change this,,MMORPG's would be a better place for most of us...But again..It's fun to find something "rare" or something that your friend doesn't have, it's almost part of human nature..So how do we change this ?

I have been playing for a while now and..
1. The game feels stiff and tired, atleast in some other games the feel of action lures you to belive that its action packed.
As an example, The Gobb Shaman each time he heals I hardly even notice that he does a ting, there is just HP gain and some smallish green glitter.
2 Animations are just so poor
3 Graphics are .....(well you know about this one) :)
4 Everyone runs around "minding their own buisness"
5 No one uses the lower level RvR zones just because it's better to run around and solo scenarios.
6. Even thou I'm on a RvR server i can make myself Immune to PvP and show up and act like a complete jerk in areas that are obviously ment to be PvP . This goes for many puplic quests.
-This characther is not flagged for RvR.
On the other hand PQ is the only feature that makes WAR special and a really good feature aswell.Warhammer is hardly the revolotion you may think, It's a rather basic MMO that walks in DaoC and WoW footsteps, It even feels as ols as these 2 games.
We shall see if the fun picks up in the later stages but so far it hasn't managed to impress me te least, not like Conan did with or without the bugs.

I don't know, I think your assessment is a bit hit or miss. The graphics are fine to my eyes. Not cutting edge but not crappy to my opinion.
Animations are hit or miss. In some cases I think some are missing. it's my thought that they might be added later but who knows. Stil, some are very cool.
Doesn't feel stiff to me, seems like a lot is going on around you and that there is so much to do and that you can pick and choose.
Join a guild and you will get the interaction you seek. otherwise I would say that you are used to chat room mmos where people shoot the shit and in some cases, where nonsense flies by general chat. And if people want to mind their own business that's fine with me. Why? it's their business.
I can't speak to the issues of a RvR server and whether you can turn yourself off. It was my understanding that some servers you ARE off and then you can turn yourself on in non RvR zones. Perhaps you are on the wrong server? As far as no one using the lower lvl scenarios, that is completely not my experience over the past few days.
As far as the game being a revolution, who is spouting this garbage? I've never seen anything about it being a revolution in gaming.
The game is fine. It's hit or miss in some ways but in some ways that is subjective. I know myself and many others are having a blast. To my mind if a great many people are enjoying it then it has done it's job because let's face it... it's a mmo. massive. Which means a massive amount of people are going to try it and yet it is only going to appeal to a portion of those players.
The important thing is that it can appeal to a portion of those players!
So in general, looking over this, it is "hit or miss'. And because of that it will hit or miss with people.
Yes, It's a subjective opinion but that is what this thread is all about isn't it ? Opinions about the game from diffrent players.
It tells me that no one has any valid dislikes about this game, but I think I have several not just the graphics.
PS: I know im in the PvE(Core rule RP Server) version of Warhammer and that's also why someone can make them selves immune to PvP, but it just felt bad in cp 3 greenskin scenario where you have to sides and dwarfs could freely slaughter orc's without anyone could do anything about them until they flagg.

It is! *coughs* ... errm. Isn't ...
I agree with you and the OP; people have been trying to trash this game from the start but are having an increasingly hard time to do so since there is so damn little to trash. Delivering quality will always pay off. So they change their tactics and bash things that could have been better or just the minor nitpickings and blow up the proportions to make them look gamebreaking.
Most of us who have played this game for a length of time after release, know that those people are failing in their claim that WAR is a bad game. It might not be THEIR game (so far as they actually tried it out) but it certainly is a GOOD game to most of us.
Just as most of us know that the amount of issues and problems with WAR at launch are far fewer compared to other games at launch and we have faith in Mythic to do some more polishing in the coming time.

Ok, YOU guys have not been to the real meat of battles when it gets really large with many people on screen. Now, force your card to 16xAA/AF, texture filtering, res on 1800x1600 and join RvR with many people (50+ simulatenously).
It's no lame excuse, not at all. Your rig will stutter, I own a 2 month old watercooled OCed E8400 @3,2 Ghz, brand new GTX280 1gigVRAM, 4 gig DDR1033, newly set up OS and the framerates drop to 34 in battles with 60+ people + sceenery on screen at the above settings. And no, my system does NOT have a hardware problem, I ram the ceiling in about every gfx benchmark there is, you guys have just not taken your game to the test and rolled into massive battles with it.
Stop diffaming people that state the valid argument, this game is as good looking as possible while maintaining a reasonable RvR performance for _every_ system.
M
Sure, I agree, even your computer will bend in such intense battles, but that isn't the issue here at all.
In most games there is sliders that makes the graphics scale for better performance in battle, this is ofcourse in Warhammer's current setup aswell. but
That's also why there is no reason that you won't be able to crank up your graphics to make use of your watercooled comp higher than the current settings in situations where you are NOT fighting 100 players at once, or are you telling me that will never happen in Warhammer ?
The first 15 hours in the game I hardly had any PvP at all, part from some minor fights here and there, and this is what new players are greeted with, ugly bland and poor textures..
And no, this has NOTHING to do with artstyle, It looks just as It should in that department.
/junker
There is no excuse for not letting us increase the textures even thou this game is aimed for battles in RvR.
It's just something this odd fanbase has made up to defend the lack of even close to something good looking.
Sure, make a game aimed for lesser computers , that's a good idea obviously :) But let the players that has hardware crank up the graphics as they please.
Even thou the game is NOT aimed for PvE there still is a large chunk of that going on, so why not let those players enjoy that.
This game looks real ugly even on highest possible setting.

Yes, vendor armor all looks the same, and the simple quest armor is not better, but if you want to look different you can. The better armor is there, you just need to find it, and I think its fortunate they didn't make it too easily available to everyone. But I do however agree that some more diversification for the "simple" armor would be more than welcome.
Here is a small sampling, there is much more ingame:

Look, different shades of brown. Wait, a blue!
Come on, it's ALL THE SAME. The only thing that changes is the length and/or the frilly crap. Truly, truly uninspired.
So you mean that AoC should go for a more Disney style in the art for it to be inspired and diverse ?
Hmm..They are all very well drawn and picturesque armor and even close to the lore of how I pitcure the armor in Conan lore.
And It's not even close to being the same.
Conan has by far the best looking gear in any game yet.
