No, it specifically says that jumpgates create wormholes extending between each other.
It also says that no one knows where they came from, even though they give you the whole story in the intro video.

Ok I read all the stuff in that pdf about space travel. WTF? This isn't the EVE story! Right when you start playing they tell you about how we all started on Earth and went through the natural wormhole into "New Eden". And the jumpgates don't use wormholes, they just accelerate you really fast, which is obvious the first time you see one in action. This pdf must be at least 4 or 5 years old!

It's not that the planets are small, they just seem small when you're shooting past them at 500 times the speed of light. It's that the guns on the ships are way too huge. We're in these frigates where this little section is obviously the flight deck, and right next to it there's this intro level gun that's five carlengths in size. And then the biggest guns are the size of small frigates?
