    • Looking at getting a new cpu
    • Hmm, You could get a AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+ I believe for around that price.

      but the better choice I think for you would be is get a budget LGA775 Motherboard ($70) 1GB DDR2 ($25) and an Intel E2180 ($80) SO thats about $200 for a way better system. And you can Overclock that E2180 to 3.2Ghz easy on stock.

      I dont think Yorkfield would be much an advantage at all over a kenstfield unless you didnt have to upgrade a motherboard in which case the 10% performance would be worth the little extra cash, but I think you would benefit greatly from a Nehalem. Wrap your mind around that. 4gigs of RAM, SLI 8800GTXs, new chipset mobo, AND now an Octo-Core 45nm CPU. My god thatd be the shit.

      If he chooses to upgrade to Nehalem he will have to buy DDR3 ram, since the new chipsets for Nehalem will all be DDR3. Not to mention, it will probably be another year before we see an affordable Nehalem (maybe a bit less) because the Nehalem CPU coming out in late 2008 is going to be +$1000.

      Just saying if he waits, he will be waiting for awhile. He should just try to overclock his current CPU for now.

      Nehalems are not going to be crazy expensive (not all versions anyway)

      Kentsfield= 65nm Core 2 Quad, Q6xxx series

      Yorkfield= 45nm Core 2 Quad like Q9xxx series

      Nehalem= Intels new CPU architecture native Dual, Quad, AND Octo Core CPU. Will be awesome.

      lol I know what the codenames are, but I was just trying to say you could just say e.g. "Q6000's" or "Q9000's". So allot more people would know what your talking about . And I cant wait for the Octo-Core also , though it will have nearly the same issues in the future as the quad has now where most apps are only optimized to run a max for 4 cores...

      Well the majority of the programs that are being optimized for quad-cores are actualy just going multi-core usuable. its usually about 8 cores they are going up to now. But even though only a few programs do this the main thing thisll help with, which is teh most important to me is multi-tasking. this octo-core will be a multi-beast!

      and @killx

      Nahalem isnt the $1000 chip, dont know what your thinking of, maybe extreme editions? Nahalem isnt out yet but its Intels new architecture, its going to be native Quad cores and native Octo-Cores. Itll be the same price as new chips when they are released. Probably Yorkfield prices right now.
